Gaining Weight
« on: February 14, 2004, 06:59:34 AM »
I took the advise of some old hands here, Jeff and Montanan, and added a bit of weight to some of my rifles. I used a piece of 3/4" copper pipe, it fits into the stock hollow real nice. I put the pipe in the stock, marked it for length, and cut it to fit. I stood it up in a can filled with sand, and poured molten lead into it until it was filled. Once cooled I put it in the stock, and put some cold working compound(it's like a putty) in the end to stop it from rattling around.  I'm not sure how much weight it added, but it sure is a lot steadier with the weight. I used this on both my BC, for recoil control, and my Ultra Varmint for a steadier shot. The center of balance changed a bit on both guns. The BC, now centers on the hinge, and the Ultra now centers half way in between the hinge and the trigger guard. The best part is, it's easy to remove if you want to carry the gun in the field, and want it lighter.
