Will they perform well on a whitetail or are they too fragile to stay together? They are out of a 15" 30-06 Encore.

Hi Jamie,
I seen a test ( penetration ) on various bullets at velocities ranging from 3100-1600 fps. The Gamekings didn't impress me. The Partition, X, and various bonded's performed the best at all velocities. I know these are more costly, but well worth it in the assurance of performance.
I'm having a 30-40 AI built in a 15", which should fall between the the 308 and 30-06 in performance. I think my first bullet of preference, is going to be 165 gr Scirocco. High BC and soft enough for pistol velocities, and bonded to boot. I would use the GK's for fireforming though

Jamie :  Over the years I have used the sierra 165 on deer out of 3 different rifles chambered in 300 sav. 30-06 and 300 win mag. and never had to shoot a deer a 2nd time all were shot between the 100 yd to 150 yd range, I have no experience with a TC in the barrel length you are using but feel vary satisfied with them out of a rifle. :D    JIM

I would use them.  They are not too fragile.  when shooting deer you do not need a bullet that penetrates a lot.  Don't get me wrong though you do need enough penetration to get to the vitals.  A partition, X bullet, or a comparable bullet probably will penetrate farther but you pbobably won't need that extra penetration.  If you like an exit hole pick a bullet that is made to penetrate a lot.

Thanks for the input, it seems it is one of those questions where the answer is 50/50.  Thanks all.

The Game Kings are excellent bullets, there is nothing fragile about the 165 30 cal bullet. You'll probably never recover one from a deer.  Yes, I've been a partition fan for over 20 years, but the advances made in bullet quality in that 20 years makes premium bullets unnecessary in most deer hunting situations.  The big plus is that you can load 200 Game Kings for just a little more than 50 Partitions, and it's the practice that puts the meat in the smoker, not the high dollar magic bullet.
I offered to load some partitions for my son, he flatly refused to even discuss it.  Game Kings only.

I shot a deer last year with a .308, 165 gr. Gameking at 150 yards.  Complete pas-through, small hole in, small hole out. (through front shoulders) It ran about 30 paces.

All of my rifles are Single shots.

I shoot 180 gr. GameKings from my 30-06, 130 gr. GameKings in my .270 and load 140 gr. Gamekings in my son's 7mm-08.
 They work extremely well.
