.30-06 Barrel Bullets ???
« on: January 06, 2013, 03:35:26 PM »
I bought an unfired 24" .30-06 barrel with sights.  I normally prefer heavy bullets in the .30-06.  Do you think they will shoot well in this barrel or do they like the lighter bullets better?

Rate of twist will dictate what bullets it will shoot well, not length.

Yes, I was just wondering if others had noticed a trend with the Encore.

I also have a 24 inch Encore barrel with sights in 30/06.  I've had great results with 165 and 168 gr. bullets; especially the Barnes 168 gr. TSX.  Actually, those are the only weights I've tried.  My powder is Varget.

My 24" .30-06 Encore prefers 165gr. Nosler Ballistic Tips loaded with H-4350.

I think most folks avoid the 180s because they don't need that much bullet.  My barrel came today and I installed a Leupold VX-2 3-9X40 on it in Burris Zees.
