I WAS WONDERING HOW EVERONE LIKED THE NEW WIN. SUPREME AMMO WITH THE COATED BALLISTIC TIPS. MY BUDDY JUST GOT A 300WSM AND IS USING THE COATED BULLETS. I CAN SEE THE ADVANTAGE I SUPPOSE WITH COPPER FOULING ON A FAST ROUND, BUT JUST SEEMS LIKE THAT COATING IS MORE OF A HASSLE TO CLEAN THAN IT IS WORTH. I CAN ACTUALLY TAKE THE BULLET AND RUB IT IN MY HAND AND THE COATING COMES OFF SO I CAN ONLY IMAGINE HOW MUCH COMES OFF IN THE BARREL. MY BUDDY TELLS ME THAT IT IS A REAL PAIN TO CLEAN AFTER SHOOTING BECAUSE OF THE EXCESSIVE RESIDUE..........JUST WONDERING WHAT EVERYONE THINKS.

Many gunsmiths have told me that moly coating is more hype than practical. They have also said that the coating is really not good for barrels because the coatings traps moisture and the barrels can rust. Also, keep in mind that certain custom manufacturers may void your warranty if you use moly coated bullets.

I simply won't use them under ANY circumstance.

One local gunsmith has a 6.5 mm wildcat of his own design that gets around 3700 fps with a 120 gr bullet. He told me that he tried moly-coated bullets in one to cut down on jacket fouling. I forget how many rounds it took but in a very short while his barrel ( a Hart I think ) had a build up that he said was like it was baked on and he could not get it out with any amount of cleaning. He finally had to send the barrel back to Hart and have them fix it. So it seems that at very high speeds moly can really cause some problems.

My buddy tried moly coated bullets. Would not shoot groups for anything. I have read a lot of negative about the whole moly coated thing. I'll stick to the old stuff.

:-D I tried some new .270 coated 130gr Win. Supremes this summer and they were all over the target, really bad. I threw a few Rem. green 130s down range and they were fine. My gun shop said he had a lot of complaints with the coated bullets.
The rifling and bore of your weapon must be immaculate for consistent tight groups. Stick with what works :lol:

Wish i knew all this before i purchased some Supreme Bullets. I was going to use them in a brand new Barrel. Thanks guys! Ill stick with the Core Lokt Rem.

I hunt Rabbits and Foxes mainly. Feral Cats are my favourite though! Only thing else is a few Goats and i am now chasing some Pigs that have entered the property i hunt. Australia is Feral Heaven!

Any Kangaroos in your neck of the woods? I've heard they are hunted like Whitetails here in the States. :?

Well Big Tom there are Millions of Kangaroo's around but they are protected here in Australia. You have to have a special permit to hunt them. I have no need hunting them because i have plenty of Ferals around to hunt. Only Roo i have shot was caught in a fence. Put it out of its agony. I spent some time in the US and find it hard to believe you all shoot Coons and Squirrels. Too damn cute!

I live in the North Central Midwest between Wisconsin and Lake Superior, not many people around here hunt squirrels as they do South of here but they are tasty. Coons are considered varmits and are a real nuisance around town. Their furs have commercial value and they are commonly trapped for that. I have never eaten coon but people do.

On average about 75-80 thousand(thats right!) Whitetail deer are hit by vehicles in the state of Michigan alone, mostly by big semi rigs on the interstate highways at night, but many by passenger vehicles. The state deer herd is about 1,000,000. What a waste of good venison!

I'm not familiar with Feral cats. We have Bobcats and Cougar. The cougars are protected here, Bobcats are hunted or trapped for their fur.

Hey Big Tom

Feral cats are just house cats which have gone a few generations in the wild. They grow to twice the size of your normal house cat. They are smart bastards and i love the chase. We dont have any other kind of Predators here apart from the Fox and the Dingo.
