Filled one tag last night
« on: December 25, 2012, 08:18:58 AM »
I got "Rudolph" right at dusk yesterday. A small racked 8 point, about hand basket size, with my old .54 loaded with 90 gr of 2F and a PRB. It was a pass through that took the top of the heart and both lungs. It was about a 70 yard shot can't be more precise because I was freezing my arse off and didn't want to take time to tape it. :o

Got two more tags to fill. 8)

friend of mine was starting with a muzzle loader, used a 45 PRB, went through a rib, hit the other side, bounced back and rolled around inside. Really dropped it .
Did yours go down and stay down?
Blessings, :)

It funny how when you say you got one "last night", hunters know what your talking about, but non-hunters think you were shinin'.
The difference between people who do stuff and people who don't do stuff is that the people who do stuff do stuff.

No, it  ran about 25 yards. But at least it ran towards the road! ;D

Meanwhile, I got another doe this evening. This time with my Traditions inline, loaded with 100 gr of Schutzen under a 250gr SST. It was a quartering away shot at about 60 yards and that SST just DESTROYED the lungs. After the shot she just slow trotted off about 50 yards and then dropped.

I kinda feel bad about it though. I took a couple of young friends with me and set them in two of my best spots, thinking they would get shots. Then I just went and sat in small clearing where I've never tried setting before. Neither of them got shots. ???

One more tag, two more weeks! 8)

scary how devastating the wound channel is now with those
pistol bullets.
A friend had worked  at an ER in Washington DC, said you couldn't tell what caliber the wounds were until you rolled them over , the 45 always  left a fist size cavity .
Blessings,
