7400 Remington Jamming Issue

I am having a problem with the bolt digging into the brass neck of the round in the magazine. When you have a round in the chamber and a loaded magazine. When you pull the charging handle back, it only will travel a short way back and locks up. When I remove the magazine it will cycle and eject the round in the chamber. The gun is a 308 in like new condition with less than 100 rounds since I bought it new!!

Also tried 5 different mags...same issue...Trying to find the fix for deer hunting next week...

Hi... Is there a torque spec for the barrel nut?? We found it to be loose...about qtr turn...Now it seems to cycle better, but need more range time to make sure... Any info would really be appreciated..

Don't know of a torque spec but the barrel nut should be very tight.. If too loose the barrel and gas system can droop. The only way to  be absolutely certain is to take the gun down and be certain there are no cracks and that the bolt body is firmly held.. Also did the rifle function ok before? Ok I read the meesages and the bolt body is attached to the rear of the action bsar assembly and is listed as the action bar assembly (1). The bolt head sits in the end of the bolt body at the rear of the action bar assembly (1). If it should droop due to wear or damage it would hit the next round in the mag. With the trigger group out the carrier and bolt components can seen..

Thanks gunnut69...We tightened he nut and it seem to be working fine..Never had any issues prior...we also thought we had a problem with holding zero...seems like that could be cleared up too...seemed to change from season to season..

 I called remington today..they told me the torque spec is 35 inch pounds??

     35 incn/lbs sounds pretty light to me ! I have a dowel that I put in the magazine well as a lever when tightening the barrel nut . Having the proper wrench is important as it's short enough so your not apt to over tighten the nut (using a little common sence of course) . A dab of Blue Lok-Tite is a good thing too . I have seen 7400s and 7600s that came from the factory with loose barrels !
