Slug Barrel Question
« on: December 07, 2012, 03:26:00 PM »
I have a NEF 12 ga and am wanting a slug barrel for it. My serial # starts with a "N" so I can get a 20 ga with rail mount fitted to it or a 12 ga with sights....Question. can the 12 ga be drilled and tapped for a scope. I am assuming that since they dont offer a 12 ga with rail mount for this receiver that that means it is too thin??,,,,,what should i do. dummie me sold sb2 receiver recently that was on youth 243...oh well.

I am not sure about the 12ga, (I would think so)  but I have seen the 20ga drilled & tapped. Good Luck

See the H&R accessory barrel web page, they won't drill and tap 12ga barrels and most gunsmiths won't either, H&R has a 20ga with scope rail tho.

I'd go 20 and never look back (my 12 is a vicious kicking beast).
Even with the 20 I do not recommend you have a scope that sits closer to your eye than the hammer.

i epoxied a scope base on a tracker 2 12 gauge slug barrel withgorilla epoxy and shot many rounds through it with no problem. just used a dremel tool to rough up barrel and scope base ,put a good coat of epoxy and let it sit a couple days. put a simmons pro diamond on it with low rings and kept scope in front of hammer. scratchmark has it now and i dont think he has had any trouble with it.
