Ruger customer service-say what?

I have a Ruger Blackhawk 6 1/2" 41 mag, scoped and Magna ported. Any way, I was shooting and had a squib load that stuck it's bullet jacket in the forcing cone. So as per Ruger instructions, I took off the scope and mount and sent it in to Ruger for a check over of the cyclinder, frame, and barrel to make sure everything was safe. I got a call back from them today saying the firearm is unservicable. I asked why? The lady calling read me the notes that said " Two holes drilled in the top strap, firearm unservicable". She said they can either scrap it and sell me a new one at a discount or send it back to me.
So since I have a drill and tap Weigland scope mount on it, that makes it unrepairable with Ruger. Anyone have this experince with Ruger?
I would rather get the gun back and have it fixed/customized rather than scrap it and put out another several hundred dollars plus my original investment.
Your thoughts are appreciated.

Can't comment on the holes through the top strap.....doesn't sound right , but ....  I can comment on Rugers Cust. Service , least for me it has been exceptional.  They have treated me as well as I could ever expect.

In any manufacturing process today, liability is a big issue.  Since the drill and tap has not been vetted by Ruger's engineering crew, they are cya for liability sake.

  Exactly what mechanic said.  The cylinder frame of the revolver was modified and not in a way allowed, accepted not obviously recommended by Ruger.   You followed their blanketing recommendation of sending the gun back to them.  Read the same manual and look for anything regarding modifications.    It's not poor customer service, it's them covering their butt from what's all too common - lawsuits.

Thanks guys. I sort of came to that conclusion talking to friends. I will just get it back and find a local gunsmith to give it a look over.

I'm actually surprised they gave you the "option" of getting it back! I've heard, and witnessed in 1 case, where once they get a customer gun in for repairs or whatever, it all of a sudden becomes Theirs to do as they please. This is why I will never send Ruger a gun for repairs. And, FYIW if you ever have a unconverted old 3 screw and don't want it converted, DONT send it to them, for any reason!

?.......I've never heard that, and I have also witnessed in 1 case (mine) where they took my "unserviceable" and "unsafe" redhawk and replaced the barrel, cylinder, and trigger mechanism and actually sent it back to me...on their dime...they also converted my old 3 screw SBH to a transfer bar setup (at my request) so the gun would safely carry six, also on their dime...no big deal, they send the original parts back with the gun if you ever decide to change it back.....
