will a 280 rem barrel fit my 308 frame on handi rifle?

will a 280 rem barrel fit my 308 frame on my H&R handi rifle?  i thout they would just drop on but my buddy said it wont fit. please help .

Yes, sometimes, kinda, maybe, not always. Those are all likely answers. Might be best to check out the FAQs sticky. Like Prego, it's in there! ;)

Welcome! A second hand barrel might, might not, H&R will fit one to it if they have any left(it's discontinued) and your frame is new enough, they won't fit one to any frame made before 2000, see Will second hand barrels fit? as well as barrel fitting and the build year list in the FAQs sticky.  ;)

H&R still has some 280 Rem barrels.  At least they did last month when I sent my frame in, just got it back last week.

Don't you just love straight forward answers?  ;D ;D ;D

Just ribbing you,  Dinny, and of course quickdtoo, are correct, but if your lucky the barrel will just drop right in, if your not lucky that's where the "Yes, sometimes, kinda, maybe, not always " and"might, might not, " come in.  Like they say read the "sticky's", it will explain the process of how to fit a barrel.  BTW there is a complete .280Rem with laminated stock posted in the classifieds.

thanks for all the help i bought a 280 barrel from ebay so when it gets here i hope it will fit but if not you guys have really helped me so thanks. :)

It fits good :) im happy never had to do anything just put it on. :o  so now how do i get the trigger down to about 3 pounds. its at 4 1/2 now?

Do a trigger job per the FAQs info, or send it to H&R, info in the FAQs also.

I personally like Perklo's version better.

Remember go slow on removing any metal while doing a trigger job.  With weight (lbs), you can slowly take it off and easily put it back on ;D , but with metal, you can easily take it off, but you can't put it back on. ;D

Try this for the first go-round; take it apart and clean it all up good, then put some automotive 'anti-seize' compound on the contact surfaces of the hammer notch/sear. The pull will be reduced without removing any metal.

wow!!! I put the anti-seize on it and it droped down to 2 1/2 pounds. :)  how long will that last? and i did clean it all up first.

What a sweet report with real trigger gauge figures! Sometimes I notice one seems to be getting a little heavier, and on an easy gun to re-treat I do so, but with about 1/2 the smear I first used and then it really seems to last. For the Handi you might keep track of the shots fired for us and give a follow up. I do them whenever I knock 'em down for anything. Coming from my old flintlock tradegun a heavy trigger on a Handi isnt too bad  :P , but if I come from my match .22 Martini or Stevens with dbl.lever dbl. set triggers they are all heavy  :o . I adapt, adjust, and prevail  ;D .

i am very happy with mine now and i will keep trak of how long it stays at 2 1/2 pounds. thanks for your help i would have never tryed this without you telling me. :)
