Good question.   Would also be interesting to see stats on how many lives were saved or violent crimes averted by means other than personal firearms.   For example:  Screaming for help, using pepper spray, a knife,  a loud whistle, etc.   

On a side note: Medical professionals are highly trained, regulated and licensed and look at the number of people that they kill.   :o
