Your best tip for good health (aside from the big ones)
« on: December 10, 2012, 05:14:36 AM »
Aside from not smoking, getting regular exercise, and eating saturated fats in moderation, what tips do you have that you think help you have a healthier life?

I think mine is that I like fruits and vegetables and they dominate my diet.

My folks would run me out of the house after a bowl of Cheerios at 8 A.M. I had a bologna and american cheese on white bread sandwich along with some chips and red Kool Aid for lunch. Got kicked back outside. We would ride our bikes or play baseball and sweat bullets till we could get to the hose for a drink and cooling off. This would go till 6 P.M at which point I ate supper, pork steak, mashed taters and  canned corn or green beans along with more white bread and butter and as much D milk as I could drink. I could watch some TV or go back out and play till the street lights came on, at which point I had better be headed to the tub to get the taters out of my ears. Then it was off to bed crying to watch Carson on the TV.

I believe it was the water from the hose that kept me so healthy. I almost never drink out of the hose anymore and I'm getting older weaker and more arthritic every day.

I think you're on to something. When I was kid we always drank out of a hose when we were outside all day playing. One day my friend Danny turned on the hose and a little toad that was hiding there was shot into his mouth. He freaked out from this and never drank from the hose again. Shortly afterward he got sick and was hospitalized (not because of the toad). In our case, we used cheap plastic hoses that made the water taste like plastic. I think there's health mojo in cheap plastic hoses.

We picked carrots, beans and peas out of the garden, washed most of the dirt off with the hose and ate them raw when we were kids. Washed the veggies down with water form the hose.

I think the greatest birthday present I ever had was my kindle.  since april I've probably read 200 books, mostly free from amazon,  I do a lot of traveling while laying on my back in bed. :)

When grocery shopping, only shop the outside perimeter of the store..you know, where fruits, veggies and meat are kept? If it can survive on a shelf without molding, its not food.

I'm learning to not let things that are out of my control stress me out.

I have been studing genetically modified foods, they can't be good for you.I am planning to stop buying foods that has been produced in feed lots, grains that are drenched in chemicals and of course the water we drink in the house has an osmosis filter on it. Another reason to go shoot another buffalo or axis deer this next year.
