RECYCLING SABOTS ???
« on: November 25, 2012, 06:14:34 AM »
my rifle shoots a sabot/bullet combo. that is no longer made........instead of firing the gun to clean or unload, i just remove the plug and push every thing out the back.....i'm running  out of sabots and wondering if a sabot that has been run down the barrel can be used again without losing accurac

Yes, I wouldn't have any problems reusing a sabot that was pushed down, then out later. I had heard one guy talk about 'matching up the rifling marks to the used sabot'. That sounds a little more difficult to me.

If you look you can get sabots matched to about any common bullet sizes, for good bore fit in your gun. I'd start trying some to get supplied for the future. My usual is a 'crushed rib sabot' for a .451-.452" bullet in my Knight. My experience is T/C has on average a tighter bore.

Check out the Harvester muzzleloading web page. You can buy loads for .45 and .50 rifles. The loads consist of matched sabot and bullet, you can choose all sorts of bullets. You you don't find what you need there, then your bore really is weird.
