Powder for 12 & 20 Gauge
« on: November 11, 2012, 10:55:51 PM »
Though I've done a lot of reloading for rifles and handguns, I've never done any shotshell reloading but am considering it.  I would be wanting to reload heavy game loads in the 3 in. magnum versions with lead or possibly steel.  I might even want to reload slugs at some point.  What one powder could be recommended that would work adequately with both the 20 and 12 gauge?

I use green dot in both the 20 and the 12.

I use bluedot for my game loads in 12 gauge and 20 gauge. I also use bluedot in my 44 mag and 9 mm handgun loads. For target loads in 12 and 20 gayge I use different powders.

Blue dot has forever been my #1 powder for heavy loadings. I never loaded 3"shells, but my 1 1/2oz 12 ga never left me needing more.  ;)

I used red dot for targets. Green and Herco for med loadings and Blue Dot for heavy hunting loads.

Blue Dot is a damn good heavy 10mm power too!!  ::) :)

I'll also vote for BD in 3in for the 12 and 20 in field loads...GD for "target loads" (which is what I use for "field loads"... :D )
