Texas gun store owner says he'll give discount to teachers in wake of Newtown massacre Published December 18, 2012
FoxNews.com A Texas gun store owner says he will sell teachers guns at a discounted rate in light of the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut.
CBSDFW.com reports Crocket Keller, who owns Kellers Riverside Gun Store in the Austin area, says he will give teachers who want to buy a gun a similar discount to the one he gives veterans.
“We need to start thinking out of the box and deal with this violent culture,” Keller told the station. “We need to lobby our various state governments to allow teachers to be armed.”
The massacre, which left 20 children and six adults dead at the school, also spurred talk of the possible arming of teachers in the state's legislature.
MyFoxAustin.com reports Attorney General Greg Abbott suggested Monday that state lawmakers will look into arming teachers across the state when the next legislative session begins in a few weeks.
"Bearing arms whether by teachers and guards and things like that will be all a part of more comprehensive policy issues for the legislature to take up in the coming weeks," Abbott said. "And you can be assured in the aftermath of what happened in Connecticut that these legislators care dearly about the lives of students at their schools and they will evaluate all possible measures that are necessary to protect those lives."
Currently Texas law allows individual districts to decide if teachers can carry guns, but no districts in the Austin area do.
