Would it be worth my time to even look? What kind of geographical markers denote the presence of gold? or is gold found nearly everywhere? :D

Gold is not native to Ohio, it was deposited 14,000 years ago by the glaciers. Therefore most of it is either fine or very small nuggets.

There are several areas that you can prospect and find some. Bellville, Butler, Newark, west of Clifford and near Lexington (Honey Creek campground). Yogi Bear campground but I don't remember where it is.

The topo maps of those areas indicate that the bottom of broad valleys is your best bet.  Any stream that has visiable bedrock should be worth a try.
