I just moved -------------------> South ( I thought)
« on: December 24, 2012, 02:43:52 PM »
My employer out sourced my job so I have taken a new position in Florida.
I thought this was south of Kentucky but everyone I have met have sounded like New Yorkers.
Now I know why they vote the way they do.

You got to go to the West Florida Panhandle to get back in the South, son.
Say, Apalachicola, Monticello, or west of there abouts.
The difference between people who do stuff and people who don't do stuff is that the people who do stuff do stuff.

...And the New Yorkers outside the cities aren't like that either!  Yes, we have a few nuts of various kinds in the country, but we are aware of who they are.   Unlike the big cities where almost everyone is some kind of fruit or nut.. ;) ;D ;D

We lived in Hanies City, FL for 6-8 months or so back in '58. Even then most everyone sounded like yankees and I don't recall ever meeting anyone who claimed to have been born there.

One thing I over heard a neighbor say to someone who visited him that he apparently hadn't seen in awhile. He said you sonofagun I should toss a stone at ya. As far as I know there was a rock within 50 miles. Dunno what kinda stone he was gonna toss.

For sure most of FL is NOT southern.

I have seen more bears in 3 months than I have all my life in KY, NC, AL, and IL. Seen two big ones driving home last month about 1/4 mile from the house. Some BIG birds show up in the front yard every week or so along with some big turtles.

We always refer to the Yankee interlopers as snow birds....they fly south for the winter....

Rdmallory,

You're new there. Give it a little time. You'll find a lot of good people there, and a lot of the new yorkers and canadians are fine people too. What part of the state are you in? I.e., on a scale of one to ten, with ten being a lot of locally owned barbecue restaurants, how would you rate your area?

The key is for you not to be just another damyankey.

Except on the coast, where the scale is based on a lot of places you can get inexpensive steamed peel-and-eat shrimp...
