I bought a 77-22 with a walnut stock and blue because it was sooo pretty with it's tapered barrel compared to other 22s. But it shot like crap. I had to rezero it every time I took it out. I free floated the bbl but it didn't help. It's another one of the Rugers I used to own.

How dos the barrel fit in the forend ? I have the same stock on a m-77mkII in .223 . On mine the stock fits tight on the sides about half way down the barrel and loose by the recever and end of the stock. If I tighten the screws on the sides of the forend it will clamp it tight to the barrel.  It seems like it wants to shoot, but one group will be good and the next will open up and the next will be good. I have fooled with tightening and loosening the screws on the side but that didn't help much. It seems almost like the stock is bouncey . I have sanded the stock channel to float the barrel but haven't had a chance to try it on paper to see if it helped. I all so was thinking of trying to make some spacers to go over the screws in the forend that hold the side panels on so that I can tighten the screws and not flex the stock in and touch the barrel. I would  like to hear if any one has had any thing like this with their Boat Paddle stocks.

Love the early 77/22's, not so much the newer ones.   The "paddle" stock I could never live with on any firearm.   I'm an old guy stuck in his old skol rut I guess.   I simply don't like anything but solid wood on my rifles (I'm not a big fan of the laminates either).    It ought to be a shooter though, and one that will "weather" the hurricanes well.  ;)

Bought my 77/22RS and the Burris Compact 2-7 new at the same time in 1985.   Was to be a truck gun so I wanted it compact.  Can't imagine how many thousands of rounds (or ten's of) have been put through it since, how many meals it has provided over the years yet it's still as good as new.  Almost upgraded to a custom stock on it a couple of times, even thought about having one of the exhibition blanks I have done for it.   Decided it was overkill as still just a stock rifle other than the trigger job I did on it when new.  It was pretty much retired when the 17 rimfires came along - never got out of the safe much after that.   Not good, I really love this little rifle.

It's a switch barrel now, I bought a GM fluted 17HM2 barrel for it.   The Burris is not enough scope for this barrel, but I'm still undecided what glass its going to wear next.   Kind of want to keep it compact, so was thinking of putting one of my old as the hills but still mint steel Weaver 3-9's on it.   But not enough scope for the 17HM2 either though, and all the extra target scopes I have are huge and would be out of place on this rifle.   So now I'm thinking the NIB Leupold 4.5-14X40 Matte Wide Duplex RE VX-III I bought for a new Win 70 FW Deluxe 243WSSM bought years ago that I've never even taken either of out their boxes.   Probably a better choice, still compact enough for this rifle, and it would be enough for the 17 barrel.

This picture was probably taken about a dozen years ago when I was still shooting it regular.   Always had my old model Ruger Super Bearcat just stuffed in a back pocket too when I hiked with it.

I have owned the 22LR, 22Mag. 22Hornet, 44 Mag and 50cal BP.

NONE shot worth a damn!!! The mag was a SS Varmint. I re crowned. Bedded and I stalled special trigger. No dice. It improved but was not to where I thought it should be.

I love the look and the handling. I have owned about  5-6 Rugers not one was up to accuracy of Remington's. (off the shelf guns)

My lil brother bought a 270 with one of those stocks. He mounted a VXIII 2.5-10 scope and went to the range with my hand load using a 130 Nosler BT and a accurate load of H4831 powder. Now you should know my brother never goes to the range and is not a very good shot as a result. He brought me targets at 100 all under 1".  I was impressed and shot the gun my self some time later. This gun is bone stock and will touch bullets at 100 if you do your part!!!

I sold off every 77/22 ,77/44 & 77/50 I owned. I would not own one today. A rifle needs to shoot consistantly where its aimed or I won't own it.

I have a 22lr, a 30-06, and a 300 win mag with the boat paddle stock. All three have had a trigger job, and all three will shoot very well with the right ammo. The 22 was the hardest to find something that it liked but it will shoot the Remington subsonics into Micky Mouse groups at 100 feet.

I just picked up a 77/22x250 in the RSI international and it is a great shooter with the 55 grn winchester off the shelf ammo.

I had a 77/270 a few years ago and it shot pretty good out to 200 RD. but I was never a 270 fan and sold it and got a old 1894/44 and never looked back.

I have owned a boat paddle 77-22lr since 1997. It's one of the best shooting 22lr rifles I have ever had my hands on. It shot Fed Gold Medal Match ammo into 1/4" at 25yds when it was solidly rested. I put a cheap tasco scope on it and shot it that way for many years. That combo accounted for more than 40 squirrels a year for three or fours years in a row. Then the Army came along and I haven't shot it for a few years now. The scope is long gone and I have plans to put one of the rimfire specific Nikon scopes on it for the next decade or four. Mine's stainless without sights. It also shoots the SSS 60gr and CB Longs really well. Don't ask me how, it doesn't make sence to me either.

Thanks, Dinny
