CHICAGO (AP) — Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan is trying to salvage the state's ban on concealed carry.

Madigan said Tuesday that she's filed a petition asking that all 15 judges on the U.S. 7th Circuit Court of Appeals review a lawsuit challenging the ban.

Last month, a three-judge panel struck down the ban on carrying concealed weapons in Illinois — the only remaining state where doing so is entirely illegal. They gave lawmakers 180 days to write a law legalizing it.

The judges said the ban was unconstitutional and suggested that legalizing concealed carry is long overdue. Gun advocates had vowed to challenge the ban on every front.

Madigan says the court's decision "goes beyond what the U.S. Supreme Court has held" and conflicts with decisions by two other federal appellate courts.

I fear that even if the current ruling is upheld, that the state legislators will make it next to impossible to procure a concealed carry license. Hopefully I'm wrong, but I see them making it too expensive or impractical for the average joe to get one.

I agree with you on that. I spent a lot of time dealing with Chicago inner city employees of a company I had trucks leased to. Every single one that I dealt with in that 6 years, had never even held a gun, so you'll get no support from them. They were pretty good folks, but so oblivious to their surroundings, that they didn't even know that they had deer and coyotes living around where they worked. They for the most part in Illinois cities, where most of the voting population lives, 911 folks. It never occurs to them that they could protect themselves.

Don't get me wrong, I love this state! The beauty, hunting and fishing and not to mention the people of the rural areas/small towns are just awesome!  I'm from Florida, and my wife is from the Quad city area.  We moved up here to raise our kids in a slower, more forgotten pace of life. Central Florida is way more poplulated than the rural areas here, but we have an easy CCW permit system! I hope for my family's sake that CCW is available and easy to get, but in the end I may have to follow everyone else and move across the Mississippi.
