greek 30-06 cases?
« on: January 03, 2013, 04:50:05 PM »
Just came into 100 or so 30-06 Greek cases, 68 headstamp.  Waited while the guy fired his last clip, then helped him pick up.  I gather from the sales ads these are non corrosive.  There are a few blemishes I think came from landing in the snow.  Are these worth keeping as reloading brass?  I know they have the crimped primer, and probably a smaller volume.  I am not desperate right now for 06 brass, but know that someday I may wish I had more.  If not useful, they will go into the retirement fund bucket.

Today I found 50 30-30, some once fired Hornady, some Hansen?, and some mixed stamps that have white primers, so I have to look and figure if they are someone's reload discards.
just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they are not watching you

Kenny, the brass you have is likely head stamped HXP (Greek Powder and Cartridge Co., Athens, Greece) and it is non-corrosive, boxer primed and reloadable.  Any blemishes are more than likely from long term storage in the can they were packed and stored in.  Unless you can see deep pitting (for which I couldn't guess the cause) they are fine for reloading.

You are correct that it is best to back off about 2 grains from the normal starting load of 90% or so of the max charge.

The Greek 30-06 ammo is available from the CMP at:     http://www.odcmp.com/Sales/ammo.htm

Here's a good reference on head stamps worldwide:     http://cartridgecollectors.org/?page=headstampcodes

And here's a good link on corrosive primer dates for USGI ammo:      http://www.odcmp.org/1101/USGI.pdf

+1 to what Lance said!  I bought a lot of the Greek stuff in whatever caliber was available when it was inexpensive and it was all top notch!  That includes the brass!   ;)
