Contender stock weights
« on: January 15, 2013, 11:17:35 PM »
Hello, looking for weights of various stocks.... Has any body weighed theirs or willing to weigh?

I read that the bell and carlson carbelite had a 20 ounce stock and 8 ounce forend... don't know if that weight is accurate...anybody have one?   Black rynite weighs 9 ounces... don't know about forend.  Any info on the appalachian thumbhole or brown precision kevlar thumbhole? Or any other stocks or forends including wood? Thanks for any and all info... I'm working on an ultralight carbine.

Great question.
Sorry, I don't have the weights that your are wanting, but I too am trying to make my contender carbine as light as possible, and I am needing an old style, G1 stock for it.
I haven't heard of a brown precision kevlar contender stock, or a carbelite contender stock, where can one get these?
I have even coonsidered making one. I had made an encore stock fromm yew wood, nice and light wood.........but the dust I inhaled just about killed me

Reviews for  the bell and carlson look to be poor at best.......and at 20 ounces, not worth the $190 IMHO.

Yeah 20 ounces almost to heavy to be realistic... Who knows?  Weighed encore synthetic forend for carbine it was 8 ounces in packaging so probably 7 ounces.  I have a call into brown.  I think it will be hard to beat the the standard rynite stock.  I'm really curious about the appalachiann... I really like the standard thumbhole on my encore.

I had fitted a contender stock to my encore, but it was just to much of a handful... 16.25" 30-06 running hot loads.  Had it down to 5 pounds 8 ounces... It is now 6 pounds 10 ounces and tolerable... Very effective back pack gun 31 inches long and does not hang up in brush.  Trying to build 5 poundish contender, had one close in 7-30 waters at one time... Need another one.  Looking for lighter stock this time and a lighter scope.

A factory stock with a tapered 16" 7-30 Waters barrel should hit the 5 lb mark with nothing needed.
