In smoothbores Ive always got the best with Win. Foster slugs. Years ago I pulled Rem. Fed and Win. Foster slugs apart to mic the slug and found the Win to be the largest dia. I did it again about 2yrs. ago for my 12 and they still were but I dont know about now (only one way to know, if ya just gotta know the dia.), otherwise just shoot them and see how they do in your gun which is really what you want to know.
BTW, Rem 'Sluggers'(?) have been the worse for me though worked well for others, go figure........

Agree with gcrank1 - your better off trying the brands/types and find out which one your gun prefers. Make several targets with paperplate size circle and try them at about 40yds to get an idea of how they shoot. Good luck in your search (of course, you will have fun doing it).

I have been using 3" buckhammers with pretty good success.  I hear they may have stopped making them.  They are serious kickers, if I can find any, I will switch to 2.3/4 next year.

I used to use the Hasting slugs then they were discontinued so switched to Buckhammers now they are discontinued all I have ever used were 2 3/4" and when I heard they were going to be gone my brother and I bought 100 boxes so we are good to go for a few yrs. But I have now heard that Brenneke has bought the equipment for the Hasting slugs and they are supposed to be making those here in the US...I believe this is true although I have not looked into it to much as I have plenty of the Buckhammers. BTW my use is all 20ga. I have built 6 of these 20ga and for here in Illinois they have worked as well as any slug gun I have ever seen. Mine are all light slug guns and I am a wimp to recoil so 2 3/4" is plenty for me. Some guys like the sabot's but mine and the ones I have built for other's rarly get used past 60yrd and are either open sights of have red dots on them. Plus the 7-$9 per box vs $15-20 for sabot's is a no brainer for me. I also heard that Brenneke was not going to make the 3 1/2" 20ga for those super thumpers Hastings made before they went under.
