EER scope for a .22
« on: January 13, 2013, 03:30:55 AM »
easy?-not so,can't find any scope with EER and parallax set for 50 yards...I  have nice BSE MARTINI .22 set up for a scope[the scope must be mounted on the barrel-not the reciever]-but can't find any .22 scope with the 6-8'' of eye relief I need.Lots of EER scopes, and lots of scopes with 50 yd parallax-but none with BOTH features.I've looked at shotgun scopes, scout scopes and pistol scopes. No luck.Being a .22 I need a duplex type reticule, some models have heavy black crosshairs-some with circles, neither of which would  be suitable for .22 shooting.Anybody else have this problem?

The only thing I can think of is a Leupold scout scope and have the parallax set by the custom shop but with 2.5x magnification parallax won't be a problem.

I confess while I know what parallax IS-I am unaware of the ''magnification factor''-are you saying with low powered [say 2 1/2-4X] scopes I shouldn't have to worry about using a scope set for the usual 100 yards?
I haven't noticed it as a problem shooting at sub 100 yard ranges with my regular hunting rifles with scopes set for 100 yd parallax.
If that is indeed the case-then a regular EER handgun scope should work for my application.Any comments on parallax, scope magnification  powers and ranges  are appreciated.

Personally, I think way too much time is spent worrying over parallax "problems".  Sure, the presence of it can affect accuracy, but under MOST circumstances it isn't much.

Think of it this way:  Most .22 scopes are set at 50 yds, but people probably take most of their shots at small game at 20 to 30yds or so and never think twice about parallax.  Most centerfire scopes are set at 100 yards and people shoot at big game (admittedly a much larger target) anywhere from 25 to 300 or 400 yards with no concern.
Now, if you're shooting benchrest competition where a quarter inch will knock you completely out of contention then it's something to concern yourself with.

Lastly, if your eye is perfectly centered behind the scope there is no parallax, regardless of what range it is set at or what range you're shooting.  Parallax only occurs when your eye is misaligned with the scope and the range you're shooting is different than the scope is adjusted/or set for.

thanks-and from what you say-having a scope with the proper eye relief sounds like it is more important than parallax.A scope  with 3'' eye relief would entail leaning way forward to use the scope-whereas a scope with 6-8'' of eye relief would allow me to keep my head back in proper position and more consistant alignment

I just ordered a Mueller EER 2-7x pistol scope with a plain reticule, which is what I want for .22 shooting. The EER is variable-about 8.7''which should allow me to hold my head upright rather than leaning way forward.
What I don't know is how reliable Mueller scopes are....the price[$80] was right but if its junk-anything you pay is too much.I'm in Canada and bougt it from MARSTARS and they said if I didn't like it I can return it,so thats about as good as you can get.I'd really like to hear from people who have used Mueller EER pistol scopes-are they good-bad or indifferent[ps-I'm not expecting LEUPOLD quality-but something I can adjust, focus and will hold it]
