Getting the next Generation involved...
« on: November 12, 2012, 04:26:12 PM »
My wife and I decided, with his mom's permission, to buy an H&R 12 ga. from a local estate sale of a friend for my nephew.  It's needing a lot of work, but it's a 1940 Round tang with the left-right toggle release and snap on forend.  So far I've got about 10 hours into refinishing, but I think it'll be worth it.  ;)  This is the wood and hoping to have the metal stripped and re-blued by next week some time.  Then hopefully in early December he and I can go do some skeet shooting.  He's been wanting to have a gun for a long time, so I'm hoping it turns out good for him.  I like the way the wood turned out at least.  ;)

Well after about 18 hours of sanding, polishing and buffing on metal, here's the finished package:
Sorry if the photo is a little dark.  I may follow up with some more later:

Good job on it - and a nice thing to do for your nephew!  Nobody ever forgets their first gun.

tacklebury,

You did a real nice job on the gun!  I'm sure your nephew will love it.

Thanks all, he did love it!  We've got a date to do some skeet shooting next month once I'm done moving and he's signing up for his hunter's safety course for spring.  He's got a lot to learn I can see from watching him with it, but we'll get there.  ;)

I love it, that came out really nice.
