Misfires

Today i was shooting and geting misfires (light primer strikes) five out of ten. they fired in another gun. then the hammer would not cock unless i held the bbl up. think something inside is broken, anyone have any ideas??

Welcome! Sounds like a broken transfer bar, see Broken Transfer Bar in the FAQs sticky. You can buy a replacement from Numrich if they have any, or send the rifle to H&R for repair, see the trigger hone info in the FAQs sticky on how to replace it if you want to fix it yourself, or the repair page on the H&R website for them to do the work, be sure to ask them to cover return shipping. ;)

took the gun apart. nothing broken reassembled and still same. installed a wolf extra power hammer spring. still no help.

Still having cocking issues?
If so sort that first. Some have reported getting a stock bolt screwed in far enough to affect cocking. The trigger return spring needs to kick it back and thus sear into position in the hammer notch. If the hammer isnt getting back far enough that wont happen either.
The lifter/striker (alias: t-bar) assembly has to be working free enough in there to not bind up.
If it is cocking OK and you are getting light strikes you probably have the 'too short striker syndrome' (there is much posted about this, complete with pics) and need the right new one.

The 2-part t-bar will cause FTFs if it gets too warn and floppy, that usually happens before it becomes 2 separate pieces and fails completely, order a new one or peen it back together so it's tighter for a temp fix.

peened the transfer bar. fixed the ftf. at least for five rounds so far. the non cocking was the transfer bar hitting the bottom fo the firing pin. the peening fixed that too. thanks to all
