Workers Making $30K Will Take A Bigger Hit On Their Pay Than Those Earning $500K Under New Fiscal Deal Posted on January 6, 2013 by Cowboy Byte
A whole lot of people are about to find out they’re one of the evil “rich” people Obama has been railing against.
Middle-class workers will take a bigger hit to their income proportionately than those earning between $200,000 and $500,000 under the new fiscal cliff deal, according to the nonpartisan Tax Policy Center.
Earners in the latter group will pay an average 1.3 percent more – or an additional $2,711 – in taxes this year, while workers making between $30,000 and $200,000 will see their paychecks shrink by as much as 1.7 percent – or up to $1,784 – the D.C.-based think tank reported.  Overall, nearly 80 percent of households will pay more money to the federal government as a result of the fiscal cliff deal.
‘The economy needs a stimulus, but under the agreement, taxes will go up in 2013 relative to 2012 – not only on high-income households, as widely discussed, but also on every working man and woman in the country, via the end of the payroll tax cut,’ said William G. Gale, co-director of the Tax Policy Center.
‘For most households, the payroll tax takes a far bigger bite than the income tax does, and the payroll tax cut therefore – as [the Congressional Budget Office] and others have shown – was a more effective stimulus than income tax cuts were, because the payroll tax cuts hit lower in the income distribution and hence were more likely to be spent,’ he added.

Powderman:  Thanks for posting this.  I sure hope some of those single issue hobama supporters understand that the demigods in dc, esp those who like to define what the middle class is (now from 30 - 200k) find themselves in this newly defined tax category.  I hate to see difficultiy heaped on top of difficulty but this is far too rich to let fade.

All those who voted for that arrogant commie, on single issues they felt more important than the entire picture, are now going to find themselves paying more and more for their stupidity.  Oh man, I hope it hurts.

A while back you were one to question the wisdom of defunding SS by reducing the payroll tax which was done supposedly as an economic stimulus, which turned out to be another tax cut which didn't work stimulate much of anything.. Now that the payroll tax holiday is expiring, the average workers tax burden goes up to what it was formerly for years....This is what this article is talking about, although they try to put blame on BHO.  I'm all for payroll tax going up to former level_ _and I'm all for payroll tax being extended well above the $110k wage ceiling...and I'm all for looking at means criteria for who actually receives the annuity portion of SS.

So? So what?  What's this some kind of back door class envy. :D ...? If you're on some kind SS program don't you think SS should be funded, not defunded and not politicized like this article trys to do?

I am on SS disability.  I have my own insurance but those who depend on medicare took a 700 billion cut to fund obama care, and will be forced "by threat of fines or imprisonment" to buy HIS insurance.
There's no class envy here, if a person works hard and "makes it", good for him.
but if a person doesn't "make it" for some reason, I don't look down my nose at them.
my view on SS is this, I am still paying into it after 55 years of doing so.  so I should get SS
If I were just starting my working life, I would rather see it privatized, so I would get every penny of the money I invested.  as it is, I'll never recoup all that I paid in.

restored...increase? either/both=LESS TAKE HOME PAY...the american worker takes in the shorts...either way! right?

americans are just beginning to feel the sting that is yet to take place...fully implemented obabmacare.

obama has done nothing since he's  been in office but campaign for re-election and pressure the congress to raise taxes (especially on the "Wealthy")...it seems the line that divide the "wealthy" from the "average wage earners" gets lower and lower.

he has ushered in the single biggest tax hike in history, "Obamacare", and isn't happy with that increase...

How are you still paying into SS if you're on SS disability..?
and
If SS was privatized do you think you would easily get a disablity..?  Doubt it.
In fact, if privatized the funds might disappear all together (i.e. transferred). Privatization of SS is just another fraud of the Kleptocracy, to make your funds once removed from public scrutiny.
.
Payroll tax wasn't raised_ _it was restored to its former rate. Lots of workers real pay has been falling for some time now.....Except the 1% has earnings gone into orbit.. ::)
.
.
...TM7
I prepared myself.  I have paid SS since I was 16 which included 30 years at Delta Airlines from which I draw a pension which has SS withheld.  If I could have invested that SS money for my 55 years of paying in "so far" I could have been a millionaire several times over.
plus I listened when my favorite uncle said "buy utilities", so me and Dixie Dude have something in common, making money with natural gas.  (that uncle worked for a gas company in Ala.)
and there you go again with your class envy about those 1%ers.  you sound more like a democrat every day. ;D

No matter how you cut it, taxes will go up an anyone who purchases product or services, if they did nothing but tax millionares, you would still pay somehow. They pass it on to us...and there is nothing anyone can do about that. Since half the people don't pay anything, I guess they use their "earned income tax credits" to help pay the higher costs of everything when they buy something and taxes go up somewhere. Nobody escapes anything, except working...lots of people escape that.
I guess when the bank runs dry people start pointing at whatever is left and politicians will help them do that. Won't do em no good though, their voting record finally caught up with em. Eveyone will pay shortly...no matter what information they are told. I think the people finally voted themselves into a box with their picking and choosing bad guys and evil people and who will pay.
We will all pay.

I understand that obama care places a large tax on medical appliances, and I'm sure that no insurance or obama care will pay that, so let's throw another burden on the old people.
thanks obama-bots

here's the scoop.
pace makers, defibrillators (like the on implanted in my chest) and many other appliances will be taxed to help pay for obama care.http://www.forbes.com/sites/aroy/2012/06/04/the-medical-device-tax-killing-jobs-and-raising-premiums/

TM7, yes I am a spear carrier for the 1%  any corp that remains in the USA or returns to the USA should pay "ZERO" taxes.  I'm in favor of creating jobs.

I didn't expect anything but getting shafted no matter how things came out.  There is a class of people who actually run the whole country and they are out to take care of their own.

Ever wonder why the "news" has to much fluff?  It is to distract us peasants instead of really telling the stories.  I don't care what Justin Beiber did, who passed how many yards, or who may be in the Super Bowl.  I do care about the AIG thing.  They screwed their stockholders, "us" in the bailout, their low level employees, and now are trying to do it again.  Let that SOB CEO come on over, I have a broom his hand may fit, I bet he can't run a lathe though.

Yes, the media is hiding a lot of what is going on in DC.  a lot of folks here lambast Fox news, but they are more fair-and-balanced than the alphabet news channels.
