new mold today
« on: January 10, 2013, 02:29:36 PM »
Picked this mold up for these bullets today. It is a 247 grain gc bullet designed for the blackout. Gonna try it in my handi 30-06 shorty and my 300 bo stub barrel.

Hope it'll stabilize for you, long bullet there.  Gas check weight might give issues too on one that long.  You'll have to let us know how it works.  8)

Jbm stability calculator says it will stabilize in a 1-10 twist at 1100fps. Hopefully try it out this weekend.

Rough measurement of mold cavity is 1 5/16 bullet length.

I'm not sure how you do it, but those bullets are way nicer looking than anything I've ever cast.  They're down right purdy...

I have that NOE mold also, mine is a double cav one gas checked one plain base.  I bought it mainly for use in my 30-06's.  Trailboss powder will get it down to subsonic without much trouble and IMR 4895 will get it going 2200fps pretty easy.  At 2200fps with that bullet I'm pretty sure you would never recover one from an animal.

I have never had an issue with it stabilizing in my 1:10 twist rifles.  Lots of fun to ring the 300 yard plate with it going subsonic, seems like it takes longer for it to get there than my 300wsm shooting a 208gr at 2850fps on steel at 2000 yards.

Hey, I also bought that NOE mould from a group buy.
I bought it like the previous poster for my 30:06.
But I got all caught up in buying a S&W 500 and have not even un wrapped the mold. Good to hear that you have had success with it. I may even try it in my Mosin Nagant depending on how large the mold drops the rounds. By the way I also opted to have one cavity HP just to try it out.

I like being able take a sip of coffee while waiting for the bullet to ring the long gong  ::) .

I have that mold, just haven't had time to play with anything.  Mine is a 4 cav, 2gc 2pb.  My intentions are for all the 30 cals, I think it will work peachy in a 30-30 or 7.62X39 Handi.
