With the extreme shortage of small pistol primers, I was told that you can use small rifle primers instead. HELP!!!!!

I've been using small rifle primers in my .357 magnum for a long time.  The work fine but you have to work up your loads from scratch with them.  I also used them to load for my daughter's .380 auto during the Klinton years.

Don't load a bunch of them until your sure your pistol hits the primer hard enough to set them off.  Otherwise they will work also if your loading near max you might need to back down a bit.  I'm not sure if they are hotter or not.  I load way below max with cast bullets so it has never been an issue.

Both of the S&W .357 revolvers I have will set them off just fine as did the Model 19 that I sold many years ago.  My Daughter's Makarov sets them off just fine too...  It wouldn't hurt to check, and in the worse case, you might have to install some Wolf extra power springs.

Adjust the loads (starting loads) and they'll be ok. Seems that there are no problems with revolvers, but I'm sure my striker fired 9mm would have problems with harder primers; I get light primer strikes and mebbe 1 out of 25 will fail to fire on first strike ( yep, the primers are seated properly! it's the gun).
