Was looking at BBC to get the "outside" take on this.  They list one of O's points as prohibition on armor piercing bullets - thought we had that for real AP ammo already?


But doesn't a lot of normal hunting rifle ammo defeat body armor too.  I'm not up on this stuff.


So if a lot of regular ammo can defeat body armor, it makes me worried what the administrations definition of AP bullets might be.

a .30-30 can defeat most any soft body armor. You would have to look very hard to find any .308W that will not defeat soft body armor. A .300 Win Mag will most likely go in the front and out the back of any soft body armor. The laws about armor piercing ammo referred to things lilke the KT bronze bullets with teflon coating. TV writers think the teflon makes it armor piercing. The teflon is just a lubricant to prevent the bronze bullet from tearing up the rifling.

A 22 rimfire will penetrate a vest.  I've watched it done.  It penetrated the vest, and the sheet of metal it was hung from.

there is no such thing.

despite the fact that no cop was ever killed with one.


remember the hype over black talon ammo,

Thats what I'm afraid of.  Ruger 10/22's  and Marlins will be assault rifles and any ammo useful for more than rabbits will be armor piercing.

That anti pistol grip, anti thumbhole stock silliness drives me nuts.


Any idea when all of these edicts are supposed to go into effect?

The only true assault rifle is the STG-44.
 The asinine term as used now, came froma gun magazine approx. thirty years ago used it as a eye grabbing headline on a article.

Not that much later, the same magazine printed, they regretted ever using that headline because of what the gun paranoid press and govt. officials (and some equally asinine gun people) have done with a stupid term, of a silly article.
