TCR scope base removal....
« on: January 13, 2013, 05:08:27 AM »
Anyone have some tips or tricks in removing the scope base from a TCR barrel? I know most of the barrels that are sold have the bases still mounted because of the difficulties involved.

It appears that the mono block isn't perfectly flat, when the base is tightened it seems like it locks in place.....

I want to change bases on several barrels and from past experience it wasn't fun......

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hello Fireman,
Everybody is going to call me crazy, but this actually worked. I put a C-clamp in the middle of the base and tightened it down a little at a time until I could get the screws out.  I put a small steel plate and a piece of plywood between the bottom of the monoblock and the clamp, and some plywood and padding between the clamp and the top of the base. I guess it relieved the pressure enough to true up the scope mount.  Hope this is of some help.
Best,
PDK

PDK.......

Thanks for the reply!  I certainly won't be the guy that calls you crazy!

I can see where your technique would work, I had one base that I wanted to remove but the screw heads stripped first. I had to drill off the screw heads, when they they released they actually popped off........guess I had the perfect drill size. The remaining threaded part of the screw that remained in the mono block were removed by fingers turning them out. I will give your technique  a try one of these days ........

Thanks again!
