So who has THE FLU
« on: January 18, 2013, 01:50:15 PM »
As I hear night after night on the news, the flu has reached epidemic proportion,  widespread in 48 states and 29 children have died BUT, its not to late. You can be saved by a flu shot. As I distrust anyone pushing a shot, and don't know a soul in my big city with the flu, I've gotta wonder if its a bit of a scam by someone with something to gain. Could be big pharma, gov or whoever but it made me wonder so I thought i'd ask if indeed you folks across the country are seeing a flu epidemic locally? Remember those risky days before the flu shot? Really don't know how we all made it... ;)    j

I got a flu shot, but I haven't had a cold or flu in ten years.  however, I'm going to an Indocrinologist the 29th and try to fix that.

HAD the flu over Christmas.  In fact, the Grinch came to see me on Christmas Eve Day (12/24).  I was SICK-SICK-SICK for Christmas with fever, joint ACHES and pains, delirious/delusional Christmas night - searching my own internal Health Care End User License Agreements (mentally) for the HELP file to GET ME OUTTA HERE as I tossed and turned in feverish sweats and out all night long.  I was DOWN and OUT, laid flat.  For 10-days I ate practically NOTHING.  I hardly got out of bed and down the stairs before collapsing into the living room chair to sleep fitfully off and on all day.  IT WAS THE PITS!!!!

I heard that 75 cents for each flu shot goes into some type of government fund.  Think that I heard that on one of the news channels.  I had the flu 2011 same as Landowner.  It hit me on Christmas Eve and I was only able to pass out gifts Christmas morning and back to bed for a couple of days.  Can't remember the last time in that I got sick like that.

Flu shots...We're the government and we're here to help...No flu shots for me...ever...period

not here (not yet anyway)
but i'm also just this side of
obsessive with handwashing and sanitizer use.
if i hear someone cough or sneeze at the
store, i'll avoid that aisle. i've had to deal
with this a while because of this neighborhood.
these folks are mostly illegal and most have never
had immunizations, and a lot of these
kids around here get sent home for lice.
they don't have the best sanitary habits
either. ive seen women changing infants
in the store parking lot, and after they throw
the dirty diaper out the car window, they don't
sanitize their hands.
i wonder why all these epidemics spread so fast? ::)

That is so far just a proposal from the Obama administration, it hasn't been passed yet.

Around here, I'm seeing a fair bit of the flu - 1/4 of my department have had it, and about the same or a little less out of the other departments.  Similar numbers from our church too.  I've not been sick yet, but I get the flu shot, and have about every year it has been offered by our company.  Usually helps, but not always.

Off topic............ Does anyone know how many taxes, fees, and surcharges that idiot Obama has already put in place or proposed??
Back on topic..... I can't remember the last time I had a cold.... And yes there is an epidemic here in the schools.  They are mostly black and Latino in a very poor county.

The flu is the one bug that just about wipes me out.
Everything else I just tough  it out and go on.
I don't miss getting the flu one bit.

I got the flu shot this year around the first week of October. Got the flu in November, seems like it lasted about two weeks, then I thought I was all better and thought I coughed up what was left in my lungs, felt pretty good for a week or so, then bam...almost three weeks of muscle aches, going to my head, then my lungs, then my head, then my lungs. I am finally feeling a lot better this weekend, except wound up with some back spasms probably caused by coughing fits...but now those are about gone, I sure hope I'm going to keep feeling good. My head and lungs seem to be cleared up pretty good now and I'm getting some energy back.
This last October was the first flu shot I got in almost 30 years. I was getting the flu off and on over the years, but it was nothing I could not live through. Since I have been sick from the first of November till now, I can't really comment much on the flu shot, unless someone can convince me I would have died without it, I see no difference in not having one for 30 years than now. If this comes back I'll probably go to the doctor to get something fight it, but God knows what I might pick up if I go there. I just want to feel good again and keep it that way!
Wife also got the flu shot when I did, she gets one every year, she was sick this year for the first time, lasted longer for her than ever before in her life, she did have to go get some antibiotics from the doctor.  I think maybe the flu shot we got did not cover whatever is going around Michigan.

4 weeks out and I am still not 100% in the lower GI.  That part is unsettling, but for the most part, I feel a LOT better.  Thanks.
