Redding Carbide Sizing Button Kit

Have any of you used the Redding Carbide Sizing Buttons.  They claim you can neck size without lubrication and are only for Type "s" dies.  I am also interested in opinions on mica vs. lube when neck sizing.  I have heard it suggested that lubing the inside of the neck with RCBS case slick or equivalent produced the least amount of stretch when neck sizing.

I also have looked at those carbide parts.  Wish they would fit the regular neck sizing dies, but the catalog seems to indicate they will only fit the "S" dies.  When I neck size, I only use Mica. I just dip the neck in the Mica and tap the excess off.  Sometimes this method does not seem like enough lube though, interested to see some others experience.

When neck resizing with standard dies I spread the mica a bit down the brass. It seems to help. I much prefer the Lee collet dies that don't even require mica. Wish they made them in 7-30.

If you fella's are talking about the redding carbide decapping pin buttons yes they do fit in the regular die's. What you get is a carbide ball and a shorter decapping pin nut. Just pull your decapper nut/expander combo off and replace with the carbide ball and nut. Great improvment in neck sizing and I've even adapted them to some RCBS dies. A minute dab of Imperial wax really slicks things up too!

You are right.  I went back and looked at the Redding catalog tonight.  Their wording is kind of confusing, their statement is that they fit the "S" dies ALSO.  They also talk about the Competion dies, but those are totally differennt carbide sizers.

Anyway, my question is do you still use lube of any kind.  I was going to try the Lee Collet Die but would rather go the Carbide Sizer Button if no lube is needed.

Thanks.

Bullseye,

If the brass is clean, as in you tumble it or brush the necks with a SS brush I generally don't have to lube them. I use Imperial sizing wax and will sometimes just scratch my finger with a light coat over the mouth on a occational one and that's plenty. But if the necks are clean it works great dry also. The first one I tried was for 223 because I was loading alot of them and I never lubed any of those. It really helps in the K-Hornet from pulling that thin brass back up and messing up the cases. I even use a smidge of the die wax with my straight walled case carbide sizer. It almost makes the press handle fall by itself. :)
