Would you consider buying one of these?  From what I understand they are quite pricey but really speed up the sewing part.

curious minds want to know...

Not likely, once you get in the groove with hand stitching you can stitch almost as fast if not faster than the Boss since it still requires you to pull the handle once for each stitch. And Hand stitching is stronger than the machine lockstitch.

I will have to agree with Roy...If I was to try and make money at it I might.

The stitch that is done by hand is much stronger than a machine stitch....

I have gotten pretty quick with the hand stitch...

The  only thing I might use one for would be if I lined gunbelts...that would take a long time.

I'm a part time knife maker and I would love to have one, if the next show goes well I just might get one.

Agread that hand stitching is stronger, and on a few of my sheaths I'd have to change the design slightly to get the strength, but it would same time and wear and tear on my hands.

I think for my purpasses it would be a lot faster, as I am generally sewing 3 pieces of 9-12 oz. leather at a time.  Right now I have a sharpened finishing nail set up in a drill press and use that as an awl and pre- drill all the holes.

Actually drilling the holes with a drill press is a common occourance.   Especially for sewing alot of heavy leather together.

I've made money belts and if I was to do it all the time I would, but for my use I'll stick with hand sewing.
