Remington 700 bolt roughness

 I have a Remington 700 adl with the rough parkerized style bluing.  It mars the cartridge below it each time the bolt is worked.  Is there anything a do it yourselfer can do to remedy this?

I have one just like it in 7mm mag, and no, the bolt function is not as smooth as those with the bare steel, polished bolts.  Mine has been used enough that it has smoothed up quite a bit.  You might want to use a very mild abrasive and a buffing wheel to remove the factory finish to the bolt, and leave it "in the white", with a light coating of oil.  Polish only enough to remove the finish, and I would stay away from the locking lugs, or at least be careful you don't polish to the point you change angles / dimensions..

Thanks for the advice!  Would a buffing wheel on a Dremel tool work?  Also, what if you only polished the bottom of the bolt and left the finish on the top?  The gun is really just a shooter, but I dont want to make it look too bad.  It was given to me by the son of a very close friend who passed away.  I just don't like the way it scratches the brass.  This is my first time getting on here,  again thanks for the advice.  One other thing, when is the shortage of rim fire ammunition and reloading components going to end?    Hogwaller

I would polish the bolt body with the semi chrome polish then lube it with moly so its as slick as snot.

The easiest way to slick up that bolt is a wire wheel. It won't remove enough material to cause a problem but certainly will burnish away roughness. Remove the striker assembly and clean the blt thoroughly, inside and out.. Heat the bolt a bit and coat with grease after burnishing it, buffing off the excess with a cloth after it cools. The heat, just 'til its uncomfortable to hold, opens pores and allows the lube to get in.. Allowing it to cool before removing the excess traps a bit on the bolt.. To slick up bolt travel the races in the action may require burnishing with steel wool on a stick. The magazine box likely will needed the same treatment..
