Willie Nelson's new song Philadelphia Lawyer jolted my memory and I recall people using that phrase, usually in a derogatory manner. Something along the line of, "He's slicker than a Philadelphia Lawyer." I was wondering about its orgins. Were the lawyers from Philadelphia esspecially unscrupulous or what? Or was it more like being a jailhouse lawyer.
