Iditarod 2013
« on: February 08, 2013, 10:12:47 AM »
Reading some of Dand's weather reports and following the weather reports in and around Anchorage has me wondering what the mushers will face this year. I started following the Iditarod more closely when Rachael Scdoris (who faces a similar predicament as my daughter) ran it, and have been hooked ever since. Maybe some Alaskans can fill us in ?
Thanks! Scott B.

My daughter made it up to Willow for the re-start, I'll post some pics as they become available. She was thrilled..." it's like the Fourth of July, with snowmobiles!!!..."  BTW, Alaskan musher Ryan Redington was in the Copper Dog 150 here in Michigan over the weekend, he seemed to handle the brutal Upper Peninsula weather in stride... 8) ...

Will post more later, Scott B.

Mitch Seavey Wins!  Close at the end, Aily Zirkle only 25 minutes back, but the old guy held on! Martin Buser set a torrid pace, driving straight thru to the Rohn checkpoint before resting...but ran into a sloppy trail that took its toll on the dogs. Here is Martin in willow at the re-start:

Dallas Seavey finished fourth, after winning last year...youngest winner ever. At the re-start in willow, talking with his grandpa Dan Seavey:

Nicholas Petit fom Girdwood out of the start chute in willow, beautiful day and lots of spectators:

Thrill of a lifetime for my daughter, there is talk of her volunteering as a dog handler next year, wouldn't surprise me at all!

Thanks for the pictures and results.

Used to see/hear occasional updates on network news, but nothing the past few years.  Leftists in the MSM probably don't think it's politically correct to mention anything about working animals!
