Ruger .204
« on: January 07, 2013, 01:21:19 AM »
Wanting a small bore barrel for my Contender to shoot at paper and think the .204 looks interesting. Anyone have any thoughts about it in a 14" barrel? I haven't seen much about it here.

I have one and it is crazy accurate. It is truly a one hole gun at 100 yards, my worst groups are .4"s at 100. I do worry about pressure though in my handloads. I am gonna back off a bit on my loads after the lastof this batch is shot up. I am getting some primers that are cratered pretty bad but as I said it is a very accurate load and barrel. mine like the 32 grain hornadys over H322 with CCI BR primers. I get velocities right at 3456 fps. out of this barrel and load combo. Shawn

Cant say out of a 14 inch barrel, but in my 22 inch CZ, very accurate and pleasant to fire.  Those 32 / 34 grain bullets work great on close range coyotes, going in, and blowing up, leaving little pelt damage.

Just to bring this too the top. I bought several buddies shooting yesterday and when I took out my Contenders that I had with me(7-30 Waters and my 204 Ruger) everyone wanted to shoot them. We were set up at the 125 yard mark and with a few minutes they were all hitting empty shotgun shells with the .204 and gator-ade caps with the Waters most everyshot. My buddy Nate took the .204 back to 200 yards and even with a little wind shooting the 32 grain V-Max managed a group that was .466, I don't shoot it quite that well but it really proves what an accurate round it is.
