You can have a qualified gunsmith cut them off and recrown the barrel. You will lose 2"s or so. Shawn

Yes you can.  They just screw on but are VERY tight so it might take quite a bit of effort.

A "little" bit of heat applied to the muzzle tamer will probably help.  Never removed a factory contender tamer but on some others I have found a little bit of thread locker on the threads and the heat will aid in removal.

Mine is not screwed on at all is in intregal part of the barrel, never seen a T/C Muzzle tamer that screwed on unless it was from custom shop or aftermarket. Shawn

The brake on my stainless 45/70 Super 14 would NOT come off trying to 'unscrew it'. I even went to extremes of heat, barrel vise [used for removing tough rifle barrels] and MONKEY WRENCH on the brake itself when I decided it was not worth salvaging. Even deep monkey wrench marks and heavy torque did not budge it.
However a nice sharp parting tool on a 15x 64" lathe did it nicely. Squared off the muzzle and later sold it as a 12.5" barrel. Shot very NICE without the brake. I hate muzzle brakes!

alan,
Did you notice much difference between the noise, with and without the muzzle break?
I understand the lower the pressure the cartridge is, the less effective the muzzle break is.....at taming recoil that is.
I have one of these 14" 45 70 barrels with muzzle tamer coming, and I've been wondering about removing it also.
