Win 94 carbine cartridge capacity
« on: March 31, 2013, 01:32:13 PM »
I've owned several 94' carbines (20" bbl.) over the years and have many old Winchester catalogs which give the magazine capacity as six 30-30 rounds plus one in the chamber, making a total of seven rounds.  That's what I always thought.  But, my current 94 from 1978 will hold seven cartridges in the carbine magazine plus one in the chamber, making a total of eight!!!!  And operates as normal.  So, what am I missing here?  How many rounds does your 94 carbine magazine hold?

Mine will hold seven, I think they all will.

When hunting, I never carry it with more than 6 in the tube.  Less strain on the spring that way.  Just my opinion - I have no proof that it's harmful to cram in 7.
