I have always wanted to play with wood arrows. Last fall I made the switch and never looked back. I buy raw douglas fir shafts from Surewood shafts and stain, taper and fletch them myself. Hunter grade shafts are about 30 bucks a dozen. Select grade are a few bucks more. They fly like darts and a solid wood shaft is so much more quiet than any hollow tube shaft.
Hi NSA! Can you see how many fingers I am holding up?

I went with aluminum. I had enough to worry about without wondering if the arrows were possibly to blame. When you have satisfied yourself you are doing your job correctly changing to wood ought to be easy enough.

I bought some of the pretty wood grain and had them dipped and fletched with the shield shape feathers. They are handsome arrows, but smell like empty beer cans when broken. :-[ ;)

I just ordered a dozen from All Wood Arrows.  They are real nice.

Nothing like cedar shafts from a traditional bow...

DAMN SEXY arrows Swampy!!!  ;)   Thats some bow you got... sticking arrows in to a rock takes some doing!!  ::) :D ;) (Looked like a rock till I looked close!!)

I started out shooting a recurve when I was about 10 years old... Later, pop bought me the first compound, a Allen compound, then a couple Pearsons and a Hoyt then a Bear or three. Then a I started buying my own... a Martin, a PSE and back to the recurves... I still have pops recurves, along with a half doz boxes of factory Bear hunting arrows and love shooting them.
We always made our own arrows and I dearly miss bow hunters wearhouse for supplies...

didn't they re-open as bow hunters superstore?
it's been a year or so since i bought from them,
but last time i checked, they were there unless
the crappy economy took them out.
