Fixed Broadhead vs Field point Point Of Impact Question
« on: February 26, 2013, 08:33:48 AM »
I am selling off my bow and once that happens will be picking up a crossbow. I have a quick question about broadhead vs field point POI. When using a bow the difference in POI can be significant. Is a crossbow bolt the same or because of the much stiffer spine is the POI relativley fixed regardless of using braodheads or field points?

if they weight the same the spline has little to do with your problem. What happens with a fixed bladed broadhead is the blades act like wings and can stear the broadhead a bit. Youll find open on impact broadheads usually shoot to the same poa as a field tip because there blades arent deployed and catching the wind.

If you take the time to spin check your broadheads and get them so that they do not wobble, the fixed blades will hit the same POI as field points with a crossbow just the same as with a vertical bow.  Some fixed broadheads (like my Slick Tricks) come with an alignment washer to install between the insert and the broadhead that can be rotated to get the broadhead so that it will not wobble when spun on the arrow.  If the broadhead does not have such a washer, then the only way to change the alignment of the broadhead is to rotate the insert within the arrow until there is no wobble.
