Spring is on the way believe it or not and a youngish man's thoughts turn to cannons. I am ready to begin construction of a 3/4 scale carriage for my Parrott. I have been unable to locate appropriate scale hardware and the metalwork fabricating is beyond my limited capacity in this scale.
What would be your opinion of mounting the barrel on a Prairie carriage as this would be almost exactly to scale overall? If it would look too odd. I may have to rethink this, although I can tolerate a fair measure of odd. This piece of artillery will be used mostly for my own amusement and to terrorize the local Canada geese here at home. I already have the wheels, seasoned white oak, and the elevator screw and box in hand. Any opinions gratefully sought. Thanks, LS

I think the most visual difference on the Prairie carriage would be the pointing rings and handspike setup.

Have your approached our sponsors about fabricating the hardware for you? Perhaps get the plans for the carriage you want from AOP and scale the drawings down your self.

DD & Zulu, The hardware for the Prairie is all readily available locally prefabricated and very nice quality and is happily 3/4 scale compared to the #1 Field carriage. This is my biggest motivator. But will it look too funny?

Other than the handspike, the leather straps, and a few minor differences, it is a pretty good 3/4 scale #1 carriage. That's exactly what I would use for a 3/4 scale Ordnance or Parrot rifle and I think it would look right.

Think of it this way: if it turns out you don't like it, all you need is a 3/4 scale mountain howitzer barrel. And a 3/4 scale #1 carriage.

What size are your wheels?
Check to see if a full scale prarie carriage trail is the same length as a 3/4 scale #1 trail.
If it is close, I think it would look okay.
