Strong earthquake rattles southern Alaska
by Associated Press WHAS11.com Posted on January 31, 2013 at 7:58 AM      ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) -- A strong earthquake has shaken southeastern Alaska, but officials say there is no danger of a tsunami and there are no immediate reports of damage.

The U.S. Geological Survey says the magnitude 6.0 quake struck about 1 a.m. Thursday and was centered in the ocean, about 200 miles south of the capital, Juneau.

The Tsunami Warning Center says there is no danger of a tsunami.

The quake was widely felt across the region, according to the Alaska Earthquake Information Center. But it had no immediate reports of any damage.

The center says the quake is an aftershock to a magnitude 7.5 temblor that struck on Jan. 4. That quake sparked a tsunami warning for hundreds of miles along the Alaska and Canadian coasts, but it was canceled after a few hours when no damaging waves were generated.

That happens when you live on the Ring Of Fire.

The wife called and told me they had two shakers on either Monday or Tuesday in Fairbanks.  Fairbanks sits atop a fault line that starts in California, and runs all the way up through Canada, and into Alaska.  We've had some real shakers in the last few years in Interior Alaska.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.
