Advanced technologies scope mount?

Has anyone used one of these on an SMLE 1 MK 3?  Do the hold zero?  Do they mount up alright?

SeaBass:  I can't recall if they are the advanced technologies mounts or not but if you are referring to the no-gunsmithing mounts that replace the rear peep sight on the #4 Mk1 SMLES and go through the loading bridge, then yes, they work and hold their zero.

I've put a couple on some SMLES I have.  I have switched one between two different #4s and it now rests on my older Savage made WW11 1942 production sporter (and groups 3/4" at 100 yds)(that's sub-moa, isn't it??), but they do hold their zero.  I put one on a #1 Mk3 and did not have any problems with it.

One trick to consider is that there are two holes in these things:  one is used with the rear sight pin to hold the mount in place at the rear and the other, drilled and threaded from one side to the other is near the other end.  That later hole is where the set screws go to hold the mount firm against the inside of the loading bridge - what you need to do is dimple the place where the screw impacts, or the scope mount will ride right up on ya and you'll be looking at the birdies while trying to find the 100 yd target.  It is real easy to do as the metal on the inside of the bridge is soft - just get a small enough drill bit so you don't screw up the threads.  Then, locktite the whole arrangement and you are in for some shootin' fun.  HTH.  Mikey.

I bought one of these mounts last week for my No1 MK3.  The front of the mount rests on the receiver and has a set screw that butts up against the forward area of the ejection port.  In the rear it sits in the stripper slot of the charging bridge with two more set screws that push against the charging bridge keeping pressure on the fwd set screw.  

 Initially when the back of the mount was fully seated in the charging bridge the mount was too low in the back.  I might have been able to adjust the scope to work but it didn't look good with my scope not sitting level.

  I loosened the rear set screws and brought the back of the mount up to keep things level.  When I tightened the set screws they still had full engagement.  The back of the mount was not longer fully seated though and ended up moving  after about 35 rounds.

  I ground down the frount of the mount where it sits on the receiver.  The mount now sits level when fully seated in the charging bridge.  I fired 35 rounds today with no movement whatsoever.

  The mount seems to be working well now.  I believe the need to modify it is the result of varying heights of the charging bridge over the years.

I wasn't able to fire at a 100yds today.  But @ 50yds I got 3 rnd groups of 1.25" with 175gr PMP and .75" groups with 180gr Winchester super X's.
Not too shabby for a rifle built in 1917! :twisted:

SeaBass:  if that mount starts moving on you again, consider putting a very small indent (with a small drill bit) into the action where the holding screws abut.  I had to do that with my 'no-gunsmithing' scope mount on my #4 Mk1 and then she held rock solid.  HTH.  Mikey.
