Guy is hitchhiking, the fellow how gives him a ride turns out to be an nutcase maniac who attacks a couple people - they're black, apparently he was a racist nutcase - and Kai intervenes and saves a woman's life, by smacking the nutjob (who claimed to be Jesus) in the head with a hatchet.
