Rainier Ballastic Bullets For 45ACP
« on: February 09, 2004, 10:08:54 AM »
Does anyone have any experience with reloading the Rainier Ballistics total copper jacket bullets for the 45ACP??  I bought a small box of them as they are supposed to be about 95% lead free exposure on indoor ranges because of the way they are made.  The loading data supplied by Rainer is pretty close to the standard tables for Speers, etc.  The bullets, as most of you probably already know, are completely encased in copper.  Let me know if any of you have loaded these types of bullets and how your performance has been with them as well as any traps to be aware of.  Thanks for your help.

I'm  interested in them too. Please post your findings, if you don't mind.  I'm trying to get some of those new PMC green primers (non toxic).  One guy at my bullseye league looked at the Raniers but didn't like the price.

Questor:  I am going to load some of the Rainier's in the next day or so and will let the forum know how they go.  I didn't think they were particularly expensive.  I got them from a local shop at $35.00 for 500 of the 200 Gn. Full Copper Plate Round Noses in 45ACP.  Also picked up 500 of the 124 Gn. 9 MM's and they were $23.00 for 500.  So they were definitely lower in price than Hornandy, Nosler, etc.  Will give em a try and let you know how they function in a Springfield 1911A! V12 with ports.

Wanted to give the forum and Questor and Mikey a follow-up on the Rainier Ballastics 200 gn TCP 45ACP's.  I ran about 25 of them through my Springfield 1911A! V-12 last night and they performed without a hitch.  No FTF's or FTE's.  The groupings could have been tighter but the gun only has about 90 rounds through it and the sights haven't been nailed down where they need to be as of yet.  (Too cold to spend much range time!!).  Anyway they performed great.  Also ran 200 gn hardcast SWC's through it and again no problems.  Even mixed and matched the copper, the SWC and some factory hardball together and no problems.  The 200's were running 5.5 gns. of Bullseye as Rainier recommended between 4.6 and 6.6 of Bullseye with a OAL of 1.275.  Anyway I will load more of them and try some other powder combinations.  Needless to say 5.5 gns of Bullseye pushed em down range pretty quick.  With the V-12 ported the recoil was very managable.  6.6 gns of Bullseye pushes em at just about 1000 fps which I personally think is a pretty hot load and I won't go that far.  Thanks guys!!

I have used Rainiers for years.  I use 230gr 45, and 115gr 9mm.  I have shot both titegroup and bullseye in the 45 and bullseye in the 9, about 4.5gr in all three loads.  All three make great plinking ammo that is more than accurate for my needs.

I use Ranier almost exclusively.  Probably about 8000 of them by now.  Work ok for me.
