Round barrel forend nose cap
« on: February 12, 2013, 01:43:17 PM »
I need a nosecap for a half stock with a round barrel.  Tried TOW & Dixie.  All I found were octagonal.  Any ideas where I can find one?  With a ramrod groove would be best.

Thanks.

I didn't know they made round ones. The few I've ran into I bought a smaller barrel diameter octagon one and worked them over with a die grinder. If you can't find a round one this place sells quite a few octagon ones in different sizes. Doesn't look like they have one with a ramrod hole though. Good luck.

Thanks.  Got that one marked.  I'm looking for something like a Hawken or an English style nosecap that is rounded off, but not for octagonal barrel.  I may have to get creative and pour one from pewter.  I'll figure it out eventually.

tennessee valley mfg carries a 3/4 that could be
taken out to round.
if nothing else, could you find a substantial
brass one and braze it closed and take it
back out round as desired?

That would be the way I would do it. I've done one pewter nose cap and found it is fairly easy to do.

A little work with a round file, easy fix.  The octo part of the cap is only about a 3/16 boss in the front. The remainder of the cap is larger and round.  P.A.

The trapdoor springfield has a nose cap for a round barrel. The cleaning rod groove could fit a ramrod.

Dixie Gun Works used to sell a kit for pewter nose caps, that's how I made mine. Haven't checked a DGW catalogue in a lot of years but it would be a good place to start if yer interested. I recall the kit came with an excellant set of instructions and a good sized bar of pewter.
