HAS ANYBODY CONSIDERED ?
« on: February 10, 2013, 12:44:12 AM »
For instance, this bug out thing.
If I stay put and everybody else leaves---Have I solved my problem and didn't have to go nowhere?
Blessings

If I lived in the city I would have a bug out plan if things got bad. But I live in the country, got too much stuff and am to dang old to bug out. I'm staying right here.

I am older, wife is somewhat crippled, the car has a 18 gal tank. truck 22.  Nowhere really to go.  2 dogs.  we live on the eastern edge of Aurora, so have "country" (dry high plains with a lot of small towns) within walking distance.  The rabble will do whatever and then work toward the fringes.  We have good neighbors.  So we will probably have no choice but to stay put.

This depends on what bugging out for.  I have a feeling that going to someone's hidey hole won't work.  The country is too harsh to do really well living off the land.  The overlooked resource is prairie dogs and squirrels.  Plus stocked food and stuff.

There is a time to put a bit of trust in God, too.

I've never quite understood the bug-out philosophy. In my case, where would I go and what would I do? I think a lot of people have a fantasy about living off the land. If I stay put I have a roof over my head, pitcher pump and a woodstove, and whatever survival tools I have are here and wouldn't need to be carried. If I had enough equipment on my back to make it a day or two I wouldn't be able to walk down to the mailbox, let alone go somewhere. Or maybe I'm just too lazy and in poor enough health to give a rats arse?

In the eyes of many urban dwellers I am bugged out. Many of us here on this site are.

Takes me 30 minutes to get to a mall, an hour and a half to get to a pro sports event. On the other hand W*M is only 10 minutes away, and the local C Store is 5 minutes away. I can walk anywhere in town in under 15 minutes.

I think bugging out is all relative. You trade the devil you might know for the devil you may not know.

Live in the country, and have a very comfortable ( No elect, full solar and gas )  camp way out in the back woods. Either one would be good to go. The people that would have to bug out would be city people and people on the out skirts  as I understand it.
You know the starving mobs, gangs and of course the ZOMBI. If you planed on living off the land you would need to already be doing that before the problem. I am not a prepper and do not believe the end is near, but do believe that chance favors the prepared person.

My definition of buggin out is running from those that will not just rob you, they will kill you and also eat you if nothing else is easily available. In the history of man it is nothing new. ear

For most people there is no where to bug out to.

I live in the EAST now if you get out a map of the East coast it becomes apparent that BUG out implys going west to South west. North would lead to Cold so it would not offer the yeasr of garden production etc. Also the game is more plentiful in the South . The problem is that millions will be doing the same.
To me Bug out is when there is a local event that is best avoided . A storm , a train wreck with chemical leaks , same with a truck or plant . In an enomic crisis best to stay put .
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

Bill,

I believe I'll just stay put & trust in God for my needs. Of course I'll keep the guns loaded too.  ;)
