Mass shootings and the drug connection.
« on: February 15, 2013, 08:30:50 AM »
No, I'm not referring to illegal substances but to prescription drugs which doctors and shrinks pass out like candy even though they may list "manic, suicidal or homicidal behavior" as know side effects.  Articles liked here show that in nearly every instance of mass shooting the perpetrator was either taking or has just stopped taking certain specific psychiatric medications such as Prozac. Why are none of our great leaders at all interested in looking into the connection? Could it be because pharmaceutical companies fork over more the 200 million dollars per year in campaign and lobbying efforts? Could it also be that no news organization wants to look at this because pharmaceutical companies are their biggest sponsors?

With over 100,000,00 citizens using some type of drug for mental health management and the small percentage of medication users that commit these terrible crimes, blaming drug use equates to the same argument that the anti gunners use for gun crimes. The numbers are comparable. The fault goes back to personal responsibility learned at home and the responsibility of everyone to watch for potential problems and do something about it. Crime prevention is everybody's responsibility. Dangerous potentials can't be ignored wheather it is a stranger a neighbor or a family member. It all comes down to personal responsibility that should be taught first at home. ear

Oh yes, safety begins at home. Now how about the fact that something like 35% of white kids, 55% of Hispanic and 75% of black kids come from single parent homes? No it is not about "mental illness" it is about the fact that psychiatric drugs are the first response to any issue of misbehavior. That even though these drugs are known to cause violent behavior. Funny thing is, everyone got along just fine without these drugs for 200 years,  why are they essential today? It used to be that a kid got into mischief he was made to repair or pay for any damage done and punished for his behavior. Now the same kid would just be fed drugs, even knowing those drugs are very likely to make a mischievous kid into a violent kid.

It's a great profession for people who can't find an honest job. In my younger days I dated two shrinks and two addiction councilers and they were about the most screwed up people I've ever known. Yes, I know that doesn't speak too well for me but I never said I was bragging. ;D
