Bought my 1st military rifle today

Picked up my 1st military surplus rifle today...an 8mm K98 Mod 98 German Mauser. It appears to be in great shape. The bore looks great, no cracks in the stock. I can't wait to shoot this thing but first I'm going to tear it down and give it a good cleaning. It was the Mauser or a
Mosin-Nagent and my son really wanted me to get the Mauser. I guess the Mosin will be my second purchase.

Mosins are great...got a 91/30...an M38 with correct stock...and an M44 with laminate stock. Going to buy a 91/59 tomorrow. Good luck with your Mauser.

First of all welcome to the forum!!! My first purchase was a Yugo M98 preduzecci 44 8mm mausers too. Its actually a German K98 with the markings ground off and restamped with the Yugo crest. Funny I still have it for many years. We can't beat the cost of 8mm ammo right now. Another good buy right now is the mosin M91/59 and M38's these haven't been seen for a while and now there back. So once there gone this maybe it for them. The last Mosin M91/59 I got from AIM SURPLUS was in excellent condition. The only thing wrong was the bolt needed adjusting the firing pin slot was off to the line scribed on the knob which was no biggie. I'm sure you'll end up buying more you may want to get your C&R FFL you can order from the net and it gets delivered to your house by FEDEX or BBT "big brown truck" you feel like a kid again at christmas time when that BBT pulls up well until the credit card bill comes. This is a fun sport to collect and shoot these old war heroes and there is some great buys right now enjoy!!!! BigBill

Billybob: Good on ya. I hope she shoots well for you, and if you ever want to hunt with it or any other 8mm, there is plenty of ammunition being offered today that makes those old warhorses really shine. Mikey.

Took the K98 to the range this weekend and between my 2 sons and I we put about 100 rounds through it. It performed great and the sights weren't too far off. We had a blast with it. I'm thinking about trying to get a scope mounted on it.
