Valmet 3 barrel set
« on: April 06, 2013, 10:48:03 AM »
Gentlemen, several years ago (1998 to 1999) I bought a Valmet 3 barrel set in it's original case. It came with a scope mount, 12x222 Rem, 20x20 ga, and 30-06 x 30-06 BBLs.

I have used the 30-06 bbls to kill a few deer and a hog, but I know very little about this weapon, strengths and weaknesses. I use reloads in the 30-06 bbls but they are M1 Safe loads using 4064 powder and 165 gr bullets. Velocity out of the Garand is right at 2600 fps.

I have shot the 222 Remington bbl and it is accurate but I have never put a scope on it, where might I get one of the Valmet scope mount and rings like came with the rifle barrels?

Does any one know the twist rate on the 30-06 bbls? I am thinking of using some cast bullets and would like to know.

Any general pointers on this weapons system would be appreciated.

Hank

Hi Hank

Welcome to the orum.

The 30-06 is a 1 in 10 inch twist and the .222 is a 1 i 12 inch twist.

I have a scope on my 12/222 which is a great varmint combination.

Valmet scope mount pop up on ebay and gunbroker.  There is a source for a Sako mount which is similar to the Valmet and EAW which is a low profile mount that uses 2 wheels, the Valmet uses a single larger wheel to tighten the mount.  The EAW does require the use of an allen wrench where as the Valmet and Sako can be tightened by hand.

You might want to think about double triggers, I have found the double trigger  to be much more functional than the SST for hunting situations.  If I where taking up skeet competitively I would prefer the SST.
